The Three Stooges Trailer makes Jersey Shore look like Shakespeare

That’s not meant to be a diss on [amazon_link id="B003IB0FUS" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Jersey Shore[/amazon_link] by the way, I love me some Jersey Shore.

I never found [amazon_link id="B000SSQ7JW" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]The Three Stooges[/amazon_link] funny. With the countless reruns they’d show on tv you would see the same gags again, and again, and again, and again, it’s like “hey it didn’t make me laugh the first time.” Slapstick humor has never really been a friend of mine, I guess I was naturally cynical enough to prefer dark comedies from a young age. Maybe I would have watched it when it comes out on blu-ray if they had kept the original cast they hoped for.

Benecio del Toro was in talks to play Moe, but dropped out, to be replaced by Chris Diamoantopoulos. Hank Azaria, the voice behind many a [amazon_link id="B005QIOJ3A" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Simpsons[/amazon_link] character and a great character actor to boot, was also considered for the role. They should have gone with him, but luckily for his sake, they chose the former.

Sean Penn was set to play Larry, but decided it was best he concentrate on his “charitable efforts in Haiti” and dropped out.  I wish I could make that excuse whenever I didn’t want to do something.

Rika: “babe, will you watch [amazon_link id="B00006ZXSL" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Never Been Kissed[/amazon_link] with me?”
Me   :  “sorry hon, it’s best I concentrate on my charitable efforts in Haiti.”

Curly was supposed to be played by none other than Jim Carrey, who had worked with the Farrelly Brothers previously on [amazon_link id="B000BKJ762" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Dumb and Dumber[/amazon_link] and [amazon_link id="B00003CXE4" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Me, Myself, and Irene[/amazon_link]. He had reportedly already gained 40 pounds for the role, but dropped out because he didn’t want to have a heart attack while gaining the extra 20 to 30 that he needed. Instead Will Sasso took the role.

Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samburg, and Shane Jacobson were also heavily considered to play Moe, Larry, and Curly, respectively. Why didn’t they go with them? A $30 million budget doesn’t go far these days I guess.

The Farrelly Brothers used to be the Judd Apatow‘s of the comedy world. Just look at the first five movies on their filmography:

1.    Dumb and Dumber

2.    [amazon_link id="6305161860" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Kingpin[/amazon_link] (directed only)

3.    [amazon_link id="B0006GANPA" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]There’s Something About Mary[/amazon_link]

4.    [amazon_link id="6305744475" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Outside Providence[/amazon_link] (screenplay and produced only)

5.    [amazon_link id="B00003CXE4" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Me, Myself, & Irene[/amazon_link]

Those are all winners, with Kingpin and Outside Providence being my  favorite two. Providence is a film adaptation of Peter Farrelly’s novel of the same name, in which he gives a fictionalized take on his own teenage life, which I didn’t know until two minutes ago, did you know this? One of the best comedy scenes EVER is when the main character, known as “Dunph” (or “Dildo” to his father, played by Alec Baldwin), gets called into the principals office of the private school he attends.

“How many individuals named “Drugs” could you possibly associate with?”
