After watching the teaser for The Hunger Games a few months back I had a feeling that I wasted my time. Really I think they jumped the gun so they could get it premiered to the big audience at the VMA’s, although they really didn’t have anything to show. All I did know there was a large amount of hype because of [amazon_link id=”0545265355″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]the popular book series[/amazon_link], and I do remember my buddy Max telling me of the plot, but I totally forgot it because we were likely drinking at the time.
But the trailer that premiered this morning jarred my memory a little bit, including the fact that it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite Japanese films, the extremely violent, but awesome and thought provoking [amazon_link id=”B000F4LPJ6″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Battle Royale[/amazon_link]. It includes about ten minutes of screen time from Chiaki Kuriyama that surely was a factor in her landing the role of Gogo Yubari in [amazon_link id=”B004SIP8OI” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Kill Bill[/amazon_link].
But I wouldn’t so naive to think Hunger Games will be as bloody, being with all those pretty faces running around, not that Royale was any hack in that department either. Whatever the people behind The Hunger Games are pursuing as far as an MPAA rating, I hope they don’t tone down the violence too much. I mean they are a bunch of teenagers hunting each other in the name of sport and intimidation for fuck’s sake.
Anybody reads the books? Comment below (tone down the spoilers please, but really you can say whatever the fuck you want).
Bonus: How about seeing the fight between Gogo (Chiaki Kuriyama) and Beatrix “The Bride” (Uma Thurman) in Kill Bill: Volume 1?
