“The Goon” Dead?

This is disappointing to say the least if this news is going to turn out to be true.

Garth Franklin at Dark Horizons is reporting that the CG adaptation of the Eric Powell comic “The Goon” may have “died on the vine”. It was going to be produced by David Fincher, director of¬†[amazon_link id=”B0034G4P7Q” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Social Network[/amazon_link] and the english version of [amazon_link id=”0307594777″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Girl with the Dragon Tattoo[/amazon_link], amongst many others. Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown were all set to voice Franky and the Goon, respectively. They even put out a fantastic promo trailer in the Summer of 2010:

That trailer is what got me into the comic, which is simply incredible. It’s a great mix of violence and comedy that takes place in a 1940’s like noire setting with a great mix of strange¬† characters. You’ve got zombies, ghosts, mutants, giant apes and squids, aliens, mad scientists, robots, and [amazon_link id=”B000NTPDSW” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Godfather [/amazon_link]style mobs aplenty, now how fucking awesome does that sound?
