It's Music Monday, and it's a trash talking edition, once again involving Madonna. Today her opponent is none other than Sir Elton John, who has never been known as one to mince words, especially when it comes to the top selling female artist of all-time. His scathing observations came during an interview with his good friend, journalist Molly Meldrum on the Australian talk show Sunday Night. During the interview he also talks about sobriety, quelling his ego, being a father for the first time, and some of his best known hits. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE INTERVIEW.
When Madonna was mentioned by Meldrum, Elton was quick in responding, saying "She's such a nightmare. Her career's over. I can tell you that. Her tour has been a disaster, and it couldn't have happened to a bigger cunt. "
When Meldrum started gushing about Lady Gaga, who is Godmother to Elton's kid, Elton made a great point in saying that "If Madonna had any common sense she would have made a record like (1998's) Ray of Light and stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a great pop singer and make great pop records, which she does brilliantly.
That was the nicest thing he had to say about her, but it was followed up with the final blow: When talking about her appearance he said "she looks like a fucking fairground stripper." DAAAMN!
I'm finding out this isn't the first showing of beef between the two, The Hollywood Reporter has a great post on their site titled Elton John Vs Madonna: The Five Best Insults Over the Years. My favorite: during the 2004 Q Awards, when Elton was giving his acceptance speech for classic songwriter, he said: "Madonna best live act? Fuck off. Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs on stage in public when you pay like 75 quid to see them should be shot."
Wow. Now you know not to talk trash to Elton John, and knowing not to talk trash to Elton John is half the battle. After reading the Reporter post, Im not sure if Madonna is being classy about all this, or she just plain sucks as beefin'.
Anyhow, in celebration of Elton's fine wordsmithing, here are four favorites of mine (+ 1 from Rika) from The Rocket Man, starting with his version of Pinball Wizard in The Who's Tommy. Love the shoes.
