With a growing number of reasons to skip the movie theater, including rising ticket prices and better home viewing options, it’s easy to see why Hollywood is in this so called “slump” (even though it is expected to be a record year as far as Box Office is concerned). But there are still reasons to go to your local IMAX, and it's called a "Blockbuster", of which we won't be lacking throughout the year.
DOUBLE B’s "SUPER 8" for 2012
To me, theres nearly nothing better than sitting in an IMAX theater watching a good Blockbuster on one of those giant screens, especially in 3-D. I know some people hate 3-D and want to puke when they hear it, but I fucking love that shit when it’s done right, so I don’t care what you think. With a crazy and weird movie year ahead of us (there are two Snow White movies? Seriously, how does this happen?), let’s look at my “Super 8” Blockbusters for 2012:
Blockbuster Title |
Release Date |
John Carter |
March 9th |
As I have said before, I have high hopes for John Carter, and it’s not because I think it looks amazing (that’s definitely questionable). The reason is that I don’t want this Summer to be the one that buries it’s star Taylor Kitsch, who was awesome in Friday Night Lights and I would like to see him in future roles. |

The Avengers |
May 4th, 201 |
Battleship |
May 18th, 2012 |
Prometheus |
June 8th, 2012 |
The Bourne Legacy |
August 3rd, 2012 |
I love watching spy movies on the big screen, and I’m not a fan of the James Bond series, so The Bourne Legacy gets my nod. Plus, it’s a great fuckin’ series, and the trailer makes it look we won’t see a crazy drop in quality from the last three. |
The Amazing Spider-Man |
July 3rd, 201 |
The Dark Knight Rises |
July 20th, 2012 |
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey |
December 14th, 2012 |

I chose my words wisely when I said earlier that Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises are my two most anticipated movies of the SUMMER. My most anticipated movie of the YEAR might be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. As much as I love Guillermo Del Toro’s work and know that he would have done a fantastic rendition, the amount of awesomeness that is the fact Peter Jackson is back in the director’s chair is simply hard to describe. Did you get all that?
