Simply put, Man of Steel is looking incredible right now. The latest trailer is titled "Fate of Your Planet", and has General Zod (Michael Shannon) demanding that Kal-El (Henry Cavill) surrenders or his adopted planet will be destroyed. I've probably said this before, but I really, really, really hope it's as good as it looks.

Yesterdays reveal of the Xbox One had its highs and lows. For one thing, I was really impressed with the updated version of the Kinect,  which now features a 1080p camera and can actually track up to six people at once. Plus..the voice command thing where they were switching between the games, tv, and internet was A-MAAAA-ZING (despite what some people think, I lllllove that shit).

Something I was not so impressed with was the obvious lack of games. Yes, the whole purpose of the event is to show off the new hardware, but they still put us through the hoops of trotting out executives from various companies under the guise that they were going to show us what the next wave of games will look like. What they did show us was a bunch of cut scenes from too far from finished games. No actual gameplay. 

You know what? Matt Lees of VideoGamer.com broke it down pretty nicely in his abridged version of the Xbox One Announcement event. So I'll let him explain what many are thinking:

I'm pretty damn excited to finally get a glimpse of what the next gen Xbox is going to have in store for us. I'll be watching the live broadcast today, starting at 10am PST, and if I can find a way to embed it here on the site myself, I'll include it too. Kanye West played two new songs on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, titled "Black Skinhead" and "New Slaves". Both will be on his new album due out June 18th, which according to Rap-Up will be named Yeezus.

Lets go with "Black Skinhead", most definitely my favorite of the two, first.

The world lost another amazing musician today when Ray Manzarek, co-founder and keyboardist for The Doors, passed away at the age of 74 from complications related to bile duct cancer.

I admittedly don't read a lot of books, but when I do, most of them are biographies of musicians. One of my favorites is No One Here Gets Out Alive, which was the first biography of Jim Morrison. Being a book about Morrison and his famed band, there was obviously a lot of talk about Manzarek, and I grew to greatly appreciate his talents, meaning he was, above all,  a badass musician.

Today the first full trailer for Batman: Arkham Origins hit, and, much like the amazing Hugo Strange trailer for Batman: Arkham City, its a pre-rendered short, and doesn't show any of the actual game. Deathstroke, Deadshot, and Black Mask are all shown, and notice the snippet at the end when its showing that Deathstroke will be a playable character. 

Yes, this is a grrreat trailer, and I am very much excited to play this game, but I can't help but think of Variety's report from last July that rumored that Justice League characters will be involved. Now that would amazing, and hell, it still could be true. Imagine the possibilities.

Sooooo…theres a new teaser for Anchorman: The Legend Continues, and its remarkably similar to the first two, meaning once again we have Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, Steve Carell as Brick Tamland, Paul Rudd as Brian Fantana, and David Koechner as Champ Kind.  All walk rediculously confident towards the screen and spout what amounts to nothing in terms of actually telling us what the f this movie is about. But that mean it's not awesome? 

I never really did get into the first Anchorman, but I've grown to appreciate it. To be honest, I can't stand when people quote it. Let me give you a hint people, when you spout that one line you think will get everybody at the bar rolling, please, just stop. Sure, they may laugh and say "I f###ing love that movie!", buuuut first of all…they're probably hammered, and second,  they've heard it before, and they don't need to hear it again, and chances are they rolled their eyes before telling you their adoration for that particular movie.

 Furthermore, if a person like me is next to you and is sick of hearing that you're "very important" because you "have many leather-bound books" and that your "apartment smells of rich mahogany", you might just accidently have a drink spilled on you during the course of the night.

Even though it came out over a month ago, I still was very excited to see the 2013 version of Evil Dead last night. You know…the one directed by Fede Alvarez and not Sam Raimi. I had originally planned on attending some sort of midnight showing on April 5th, but that didn't happen. Nor did it happen the next week, nor the next, nor the next. But I never lost faith that it was going to be awesome. So…was it awesome? Hit the link below the trailer to read my quick-ish review of Evil Dead.

The first trailer for Riddick, starring Vin Diesel as the title character, hit today, and I'm a fan. It's most definitely looking more like a big budget remake of Pitch Black more than a direct sequel to 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick (which actually became the brand name of the series after it's release, which makes a lot of sense, but why didn't they think of that in the first place?). 

David Twohy returnes to direct, as he did with the first two films of the series. Fans of Battlestar Galactica should be happy to see Katee Sackhoff (aka "Starbuck") as one of the bounty hunters after Riddick.

Andrew Wiggins is widely considered to be the best high school basketball player to come around since a guy named LeBron James a few years back. On Tuesday he made alotta ma-fu##in' Kansas Jayhawks fans (including buds AK and RK) extremely happy when he said he will be going to school for one year there.

Ok, he didn't actually say the words "one year", but c'mon, this kid shouldn't even be playing college. What if he suffers some sort of career ending injury? He misses out on absolutely millions of dollars. No shoe contracts. No goofy cell phone commercials. No Gatorade ads where he's challenging the likes of KD and LeBron in some sort of "new kid on the block" scenario. Nothing.

And I don't really think kids straight out of high school should be given that decision on whether or not they can enter the NBA, but rather if the pro evaluators say he'll be picked in the first round, he can enter. I don't know about that either, I'm talking off the top of my head and I'm sure theirs a lot of holes in that theory, but for F##KS SAKE, if he doesn't get drafted, or even if he doesn't like where he got drafted to, let the kid go back to school and play. Don't give him that "he revoked his amateur status" bs. The NCAA kind of sucks that way.

Intel and Vice have teamed up to form The Creators Project, whose YouTube channel states that:

The Creators Project is an ongoing global arts and technology initiative created by Intel and Vice in order to support visionary artists, musicians, and filmmakers who are using technology to push the bounds of creative expression.
The project includes an online community featuring daily editorial and documentaries, a content creation studio, and a traveling event series.
From producing documentaries on artists like Phoenix, Robyn, and Anish Kapoor, to collaborating on new works from Spike Jonze, Arcade Fire, and Hussein Chalayan, The Creators Project unites more than 150 artists from all around the world (and growing!).

Daft Punk just made Random Access Memories available for listening on Itunes a couple of hours ago. It's presented on one track, and by what little I've heard, it sounds great. Director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) tweeted this first photo from the set of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and what we're seeing is Andy Serkis on horseback. Serkis played the chimpanzee / revolutionary leader Ceasar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which means we'll see apes on horseback. Like we saw in the OG Planet of the Apes with ("take your stinking your paws off me you damn dirty ape") Charlton Heston.

Once again, prepare yourselves for a "rapid fire" edition of Thursday Trailer Shootout! With a record thirteen trailers, I don't really have the time to thoroughly explain each one, but I'll try to give you the basic jist of why I picked it, starting with…

First Up! – The teaser premiere of Ender's Game, the long awaited adaptation of Orson Scott Card's beloved sci-fi novel from 1985. I recently listened to the audiobook of Ender's Game, and iiiit waaaaas…okay I guess. But what really surprised me is when I read about it's author and his bigotry.

Now don't get me wrong, I fully believe this country is great because you're (somewhat) entitled to your own opinion, and he can be as close minded as he damn well pleases. But when I listened to Ender's Game, I thought it had some serious gay undertones, and now I'm reading quotes of his like that gay marriage "marks the end of democracy in America". This movie sounds about exciting as Harrison Ford does at the beginning of the trailer, which isn't much, but it sure as s-h-i-t has the potential.

1981's Clash of the Titans was most definitely in my movie rotation as a youngster, and that is largely due to the special effects work of Ray Harryhausen, who passed away this morning at the age of 92. His family released a statement via the Facebook page for The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation:

Born: Los Angeles 29th June 1920
Died: London 7th May 2013.

The Harryhausen family regret to announce the death of Ray Harryhausen, Visual Effects pioneer and stop-motion model animator. He was a multi-award winner which includes a special Oscar and BAFTA. Ray’s influence on today’s film makers was enormous, with luminaries; Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, George Lucas, John Landis and the UK’s own Nick Park have cited Harryhausen as being the man whose work inspired their own creations. 

Harryhausen’s fascination with animated models began when he first saw Willis O’Brien’s creations in KING KONG with his boyhood friend, the author Ray Bradbury in 1933, and he made his first foray into filmmaking in 1935 with home-movies that featured his youthful attempts at model animation. Over the period of the next 46 years, he made some of the genres best known movies – MIGHTY JOE YOUNG (1949), IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA (1955), 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH (1957), MYSTERIUOUS ISLAND (1961), ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. (1966), THER VALLEY OF GWANGI (1969), three films based on the adventures of SINBAD and CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981). He is perhaps best remembered for his extraordinary animation of seven skeletons in JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (1963) which took him three months to film. 

Harryhausen’s genius was in being able to bring his models alive. Whether they were prehistoric dinosaurs or mythological creatures, in Ray’s hands they were no longer puppets but became instead characters in their own right, just as important as the actors they played against and in most cases even more so. 

Today The Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation, a charitable Trust set up by Ray on the 10th April 1986, is devoted to the protection of Ray’s name and body of work as well as archiving, preserving and restoring Ray’s extensive Collection.

Tributes have been heaped upon Harryhausen for his work by his peers in recent years.
